Hi Everyone

I need help setting up a 2001 Alpha Ideal fifth wheel that at one time was equipped with a portable satellite dish. It has a satellite connection at the back of the trailer.

How do we get a new system to go with our control center and what is the DSS receiver?

We are considering changing from cable to Direct TV at home. Can we use the system on the road?

Any comments would be helpful.

Hi everyone, I am amazed that there has been so many visiters, but nobody has anything to add to he posts. Out of over three hundred looky lews nobody has a satelite system on their RV.

We still need help. We put up the antenna with booster, and tv came in pretty good, just not a lot of stations. DH went to town and bought a cable cord because the campsite had cable tv at the site. We hooked it up and it was fussy and we had horrible reception.

The next day I couldn't get the toaster to work, I had used it the day before and it worked fine. Brand new and only worked one time. DH decided he would check it out. When he picked it up I noticed the end of the cord was hang and not plugged in. I had plugged in the coffee pot. Both cords are white and side by side. That was good for a great laugh.

Well, it was time to pack up and leave. DH went and shut off antenna and wow the TV was coming in so clear. We both laughed. Everytime we go out we learn something new.

So come on lets hear from y'all.

We have DirectTV, and it works great almost everywhere.  To tell the truth, I don't follow the directions... I just set the TV to the signal meter, then poin the darn thing in the general direction of southwest, turn it slowly until it beeps.  Works for me. :)

I used to try to match it up with the compass, etc.  It's really much simpler than that... you are right, I learn something new every trip!

I will try to help.
I use satellite dish for TV at home. That system was installed by a Dish Network installer. I take the receiverfrom the house & use it whenon the road.

I bought a complete dish on eBay to use when I'm on the road.

There are a lot of different ways to mount the dish when on the road.

Some sort of tripod is what most use. Some are better that others.

Sounds like tour outside Connection on your rig is wired into the TV antenna power amp like mine is.  If it is then you might have to push the button on the amp to turn it off when you use either a Sat dish or are hooked up to Cable TV.

Mike, thank you for your help. Just learning this computer stuff. We do have a dish on top of our 5th wheel. So I guess I need to decide to go Dish Network, or Direct TV. I noticed you can buy receivers at Costco. Should I check it out?Hey Mike, what is that big Monster Dog on the roof of your Winnebago? Also, Sam sure looks content on your dash. Does he actually ride up there when you are driving?  TCW, we did notice that there were times when the reception did come in better without the booster on. It makes sense that a TV tower close by would mess things up.  I’m glad that you guys have spoke up. Thanks Littlelynne you beat me back here.Any other ideas out there?Do you recommend Direct TV or Dish Net Work? Bigdan
