Did a lot of camping in TT's over the years but now we are living in our 40' MCI Bus that has been converted. We spend the summers in MI near our children and grand children and then I go off to SoCal for the winter (one son lives there) in our unit while the wife stays in MI for the winter. She will retire in a year and then we will both go full time.

Newbie to this site but not the RV world. Purchased my first RV in 1969. I traded a 56 T-bird for a Datsun pickup with overhead camper. Hooked up to our 15' ski boat and had many wonderful memories. Then I got married to my dear wife on valentine day in 1970 and since then have had three motorhomes, one popup, two tt and two 5ers. Presently we have a 2008 Montana 3000 RK we tow with a 04 F-250 King ranch. Very comfortable and nice rig. At this time we live in southern BC. We do enjoy the time we have to get away. Looking forward to full retirement in near future.

Everything was going well until the dealer made the comment that he hadn't received funding. I questioned that because I had already made a payment, besides what dealer would let you take $35K off the lot without funds ... To make a long story short as of 3/14, the owners have not accepted the check because they were told that we couldn't get financing for $35K only $30K. He was trying to skim $5K off the top plus his commission. To top it off the finance company released the funds without securing the lien/title, so the sellers have now turned it over to their lawyer.

Just visiting this Forum for the first time (newly registered, too) when this story caught my eye. Thought I'd offer a comment on this unfortunate situation for others who might be in a similar purchasing mode during a questionable economy.
While in the process of acquiring my first RV a year ago (a 1999 Chinook Concourse), the seller wanted cash only. The rig was in San Diego while I was in Northern California between San Francisco and Sacramento area, so I couldn't just hop over to the local bank and pull funds on a moment's notice for a "big ticket" item.
Instead, I employed the services of a third party, whose job is to look out for the interests of both the buyer and the seller: www.escrow.com
Not only did they handle the transaction by placing my funds (transferred directly from my USAA loan account) in escrow until both the seller and I were in agreement to "close the deal," they also offer title/lein review and clearance, DMV registration issuance as well as an independent inspection of RVs (for a separate charge).
For someone with a busy lifestyle or work schedule (and we're all like that nowadays, aren't we? ), I found the $519 in service fees to be well worth it for the piece of mind it bought -- not only for myself, but the seller as well. This proved to be especially true when Escrow.com caught a potential red flag that temporarily delayed the process a couple of weeks until the issue could be cleared up by the seller (out of state tags).
In the long run (after a 1.5 year wild goose RV search), it was a far better deal than being put through the wringer as described above by Littlelynne. If I were to do it all over again for another RV purchase in the future (I'll hold on to my Chinook until it gasps it's last breath), I would not start the process before securing the services of Escrow.com first.
Regards, ~JS~

I just Registered today and in looking through the Forum this seems like as good a place as any to say hello! I travel with a 2006 Scion xB and Custom Teardrop in tow. Since 2005, when I retired, I have done a trip every year with a Teardrop - I don't know if it is RVing or simply traveling while towing a sleeper but it has worked for me and what I wanted to do. You can read about my trips at edwardfrey.com then click on Teardrop Road Trips and select the trip of your choice (or read all 5). I'm going to do one more trip starting in December with this rig and then will sell it and buy a Class B for my future travels. I'll post more about this later on another thread.
